Children's Liturgy
Each Saturday at the 5:15 p.m. Mass and each Sunday at the 10:30 a.m. Mass from September through May, St. Elizabeth's has a special liturgical session for children in Pre-K through 1st grade. Children's Liturgy of the Word offers an opportunity for the children to hear age-appropriate reflections on the Scripture readings. The session is led by adult volunteers who have a desire to help children be formed in the Catholic Faith. All Volunteers must complete the Diocesan Safe Environment training and background check.

Grades 1-5
![]() |
Early formation in the faith is vital in the spiritual formation of a child. Parish Religious Education classes for Grades 1-5 are held weekly on Wednesday nights, 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 p.m., September through May. The goal of this ministry is to develop in our young people the desire for prayer, understanding of the sacraments, scripture and teaching of church doctrine on the level of each child's ability to understand. The parish is blessed with a very fine staff of teachers who are dedicated to teaching. If you are interested in becoming a teacher or registering your child(ren) for PRE, please reach out to the contact below.
Bishop Vincke, through prayer and consultation, has decided that as a Diocese we will proceed with the concept of the “restored order of the sacraments of initiation”. Baptism will continue to be offered at infancy, Reconciliation will continue to be offered in 2nd grade, but Confirmation and First Communion will be offered in 3rd grade in one Rite/Celebration. We will have four years to make the transition to the restored order.
The following is how we are planning to implement the Restored Order of the Sacraments of Initiation.
- (2026-2027) first adjustments.
-First Reconciliation and First Communion will continue to be offered in 2nd grade.
-Confirmation will be offered to 6th, 7th and 8th grade students.
-As has been the practice, Confirmation students will receive the sacrament in the parish where
their family are registered members.
- (2027-2028) next phase of adjustments.
-First Reconciliation will be offered in 2nd grade.
-First Communion will be delayed until 3rd grade.
-Confirmation will be offered in 4th 5th and 6th grades.
-Again, Confirmation students will receive the sacrament in the parish where their family are
registered members.
- (2028-2029) final phase of adjustments.
-First Reconciliation will be offered in 2nd grade.
-Confirmation will be offered in 3rd and 4th grade.
-At that same Mass, 3rd graders will also receive their First Communion.
This will complete the transition and from that time forward, the “restored order” will be in place. Which means Baptism will be offered at infancy, First Reconciliation will be offered in 2nd grade, and Confirmation and First Communion will be offered in 3rd grade in one Rite/Celebration.

CYO
The Salina Catholic Youth Organization (CYO) is open to high school age students who are interested in growing and sharing their faith with their peers.
The Salina CYO meets the first three Sundays of each month during the school year, from 7:00pm - 8:30pm, downstairs at St. Mary's Parish Hall. There are nights where speakers come and share their faith story, or life experience. Some meetings we have discussions to deepen our faith experience. We have several fun nights including Halloween and Christmas parties, as well as theme-based parties. Every night we share stories about when/where God has touched our lives. We have our own youth Praise and Worship band. We end each meeting with night prayer from the liturgy of hours.
Every year Salina CYO participates in a service project.
The BIG Events for Salina CYO include: Diocesan CYO Convention, Prayer & Action, National Catholic Youth Conference, Retreats! We have several fundraisers throughout the year to help pay for some of the big trips. Some fund-raisers we do: Dillons Cards, Games at the River Festival, Bake Sales.
